Challenge
When a southern Oregon city wanted to improve livability and increase walking and biking connections in its urban core, they put out a call for help. Kittelson was pleased to lead development of a master plan for the urban trail system in the heart of Klamath Falls, working in collaboration with the City, Klamath County, and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).
Solution
The Kittelson team’s plan included strategies for new off-street trail connections, low-stress on-street bikeway and sidewalk projects to improve connections between the trail system and popular destinations, and improved trail crossings of arterials and collector roadways. The firm facilitated public outreach which included in-person and online “virtual” open houses.
The Outcome
Reducing Stress for Walkers and Bikers in Klamath Falls
For the final Klamath Falls Trail Master Plan, Kittelson included critical information for each project necessary for its implementation, including cost estimates, potential funding sources, and items to be considered during detailed project development. The final master plan has made it possible to connect the trail system with popular destinations, improving livability in Klamath’s urban core.
