Challenge
Airport Drive serves as the primary public access to the Spokane International Airport, with Flint Road serving as a secondary access. Kittelson was tasked with developing traffic control plans for the Airport Drive Inbound Pavement Restoration project. Drivers arriving at the airport tend to be distracted, and maintaining efficient traffic flows and safety was a top priority during construction.
Solution
Kittelson worked with the project design team, airport, and contractor to develop construction phasing plans, and led the development of the traffic control plans that exceeded normal standards to minimize disruptions to the traveling public and maximize safety while accounting for driver distraction.
The Outcome
Traffic Control for Distracted Airport Drivers
Construction was completed in a timely manner, with only five months passing from design to completed construction. During construction, there were no significant delays to the traveling public or impacts to the construction schedule.
