Challenge
At the intersection of two rural, high-speed roads—Pioneer Parkway and Commerce Drive in Yavapai County—a traffic study prepared for a new residential development recommended a roundabout to provide intersection capacity and control and to lower speeds through the intersection.
Solution
Kittelson provided traffic engineering services and prepared construction documents for a multilane roundabout at Pioneer Parkway and Commerce Drive. The project aimed to construct a roundabout that would operate efficiently and safely, serve the projected 2045 traffic demand and future multi-modal needs, and reduce speeds through the intersection on Pioneer Parkway. We also worked on drainage improvements and intersection lighting design and plans, and led the 3D modeling effort to prepare accurate construction plans and cost estimates.

The Outcome
A Turning Point for Safety at a High-Speed Intersection
The multilane roundabout is now fully operational and provides the intersection capacity and control that is needed to serve the future residential community.
