Challenge
The City of La Mesa, CA needed to develop a plan to make their electric vehicle (EV) charging station network more widespread and accessible. Adapting the city’s infrastructure will meet the changing needs of their residents and the goals of their Climate Action Plan.
Solution
Kittelson created an Electric Vehicle Charging Station Master Plan to assess La Mesa’s current and future EV needs and determine areas for charging stations to be installed. To thoroughly understand the needs and opportunities at play, Kittelson incorporated feedback from City staff, key partners, and community members. Kittelson performed a gap analysis and evaluated use cases to identify areas that EV users most likely utilize. From there, specific sites were reviewed for constructability. This led to a few recommended sites to prioritized when implementing new EV infrastructure.
The Outcome
Charging Ahead with an Accessible EV Network for La Mesa
The master plan equips La Mesa with a clear roadmap for expanding EV charging infrastructure, ensuring that residents and visitors alike will have equitable access to sustainable transportation options. This supports the City’s Climate Action Plan by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Moreover, it opens channels for grant opportunities and partnerships with local businesses, preparing the community for projected growth in EV adoption. La Mesa’s EV infrastructure operates at the nexus of economic growth, environmental sustainability, and improved quality of life.
