Tranell Guthrie

Tranell is a seasoned transportation and community planner with over 25 years of experience in government, private industry, and education. She holds a master’s degree in city and regional planning from Morgan State University and a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Brockport (complemented by international studies at the University of Ghana). Tranell’s expertise includes community engagement, transportation planning, workforce development, data analytics, and policy design. She has led transformative initiatives, like the nationally recognized Red Line High School Internship Program, which connects students from transit corridor communities to careers in transportation planning, engineering, and operations. Tranell’s passion for education and equity stems from her personal experiences and time as an adjunct professor at Morgan State University, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU). There, she linked classroom learning with real-world transportation needs and the lived experiences of her students, demonstrating the value of their on-the-ground community insights. By bridging academic concepts with industry demands, Tranell empowers the next generation of planners and engineers to make meaningful contributions to the field. Based in Kittelson’s Raleigh office, Tranell focuses on creating equitable, innovative, transportation solutions while mentoring future professionals. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her playful Goldendoodle, Beauty.
