Nada Mahmoud, PhD
Engineering Associate (she/her)
Nada is a dedicated researcher and civil engineer with a focus on smart and safe transportation. She received her master’s degree in civil engineering from Ain Shams University in Egypt and her Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Central Florida (UCF), specializing in traffic operations and safety.
While at UCF, Nada was involved in various projects in collaboration with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP). Her graduate research focused on traffic operations, the safety of vulnerable road users, and the development of machine learning algorithms capable of accurately predicting traffic parameters. She also led the NCHRP 22-48 project to develop short-term safety performance functions for active traffic management scenarios.
Her expertise includes traffic operations, transportation safety, big data analysis, time-series predictions, and speed analysis. She is passionate about big data analysis and data-driven approaches, and she leverages insights to improve mobility and develop efficient transportation networks in her projects.
Nada’s approach to transportation research allows her to tackle complex challenges and contribute to advancements in the field. Her publication record includes 14 peer-reviewed journal articles. Furthermore, she received the Frankee Hellinger Graduate Scholarship from WTS Central Florida in 2020.
Outside of work, Nada enjoys immersing herself in new experiences. She loves traveling, exploring different cultures, trying new food, and kayaking.
