It’s hard to believe it’s been 40 years since Wayne Kittelson launched a sole proprietorship on March 4, 1985. At the same time, it’s hard to believe that just 40 years ago, most states did not have mandatory passenger seatbelt laws, the first autonomous car was being developed in the U.S., and the Netherlands was just starting to build bike-friendly streets. A lot can change in a few decades!

Finding Our Place on the Map

In 1985, Wayne Kittelson realized his dream to create an environment where transportation experts could collaborate through meaningful work, empower their communities and grow as individuals. Since then, we’ve added capabilities as we’ve added people, always working with an eye to the future and how to help communities set themselves up for success.

Our approach to growth is a simple philosophy: follow our people. We hire passionate, motivated individuals and give them space and support to lead us into new geographies and areas of focus. Over time, this has led to organic expansion across the United States:

It’s also why we now have a robust Technology and Research Services program that keeps us on the growing edge of transportation research, electrification and automation; some of the industry’s leading minds on pedestrian and bicyclist safety; a rock-solid final design team that partners with our planners to bring visions to reality; a cohort of transit enthusiasts; and many other growing specialties within the profession. These are the passions of our people. If it has to do with getting around on feet, wheels, or rails, we can probably point you to someone in our firm who knows about it—or if not, we’ll tell you that and introduce you to someone else we trust.

Thank You For Being on the Journey With Us

We are so grateful to you – whether you’re a client, team member, friend of the firm, competitor, or just getting to know us. Being surrounded by sharp, passionate minds makes us better. The impact of this work on people’s daily lives and wellbeing is not something we take lightly, and it’s what motivates us to show up and offer our best every day. Thank you for being on the journey with us!
