Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled transportation professional who is looking to work on innovative projects with national leaders in the transportation industry and help to grow our practice in the North Carolina region working primarily on NCDOT and municipal projects. This person will pursue and manage a variety of complex projects that may include conceptual design and final design of roadway, traffic signal, and multimodal projects, or other related technical areas.
The senior-level Engineer will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks for roadway and multimodal projects in support of NCDOT and municipalities. The successful candidate will:
- Develop and implement project work plans from preliminary engineering through final design and construction administration for projects of all sizes.
- Coordinate with clients and manage project staff, budgets, schedules, and subconsultants.
- Foster the growth of junior- and mid-level staff by mentoring and helping them to develop design-related skills.
- Be responsible for quality assurance and quality control through the development and review of construction plans, specifications, and estimates.
- Be responsible for business development activities including advance marketing, proposal writing, and interviews.
- Interface with clients and create opportunities to take on additional responsibilities as you manage your own career path.
- Represent clients and the firm at project meetings, open houses, and/or public hearings.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- 10 to 20 years of demonstrated experience with an emphasis on roadway and intersection design and preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates.
- North Carolina PE
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
- Experience leading projects involving designs of the following elements: roadways, intersections, roundabouts, drainage, pedestrian/bicycle facilities, traffic signals, work zone traffic control, illumination, and/or signing & striping.
- Experience managing design of NCDOT projects.
- Applied advanced project management and scheduling principles for transportation design projects. Experience with management and coordination of multi-disciplinary teams involving subconsultants.
- Experience mentoring or training other staff in the technical elements of transportation design.
- Expertise with one or more of the following design software tools: MicroStation, OpenRoads, and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Demonstrated skills to effectively manage projects and develop solid internal and client relationships.
- Proven experience providing quality technical analysis, technical writing, and/or oversight.
- Willingness and ability to manage competitive marketing pursuits.
Preferred Additional Qualifications
- Familiarity with the procedures and methodologies published in the major national guidelines (e.g., AASHTO, MUTCD) and NCDOT guidelines.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor a message to an audience.
- Outward focused with an inherent belief in customer service, collaboration, and teamwork.
- Comfortable working with little guidance or oversight in an organization with a relatively flat structure.
- Eager to apply critical thinking and an innovative mindset to complex engineering problems, and to communicate solutions to our clients, project stakeholders, and the general public.
- Entrepreneurial by nature and ready to help grow our firm’s transportation design practice.
- Passion for the transportation profession with a genuine commitment to the profession.
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusting relationships.
Compensation and Benefits
This position offers a competitive salary and benefits that include comprehensive employer-paid health insurance, a generous and flexible PTO program (in addition to parental leave), an outstanding retirement program, and a culture that seeks and values diversity and inclusion.
The range for this position is $121,000-160,000, which is a combination of your base salary plus an employer-funded 401K retirement contribution. Position in this range is determined by candidate’s experience.
