Kittelson has an immediate opening for a civil engineer with experience in roadway design and project management. We are looking for an engineer with a background in roadway and intersection design, the ability to interface with clients, and practical knowledge of 3D modeling and plan-set development.

Position Summary
The design engineer will provide roadway and intersection design support and maintain responsibility for internal project task management, create project strategies and approaches, and mentor junior team members. In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Developing accurate construction drawings on schedule and within budget to meet client needs.
- Serving in one or more of the following roles:
- As a task lead working with a team responsible for design and plan set preparation and assisting the Project Manager with client interaction and scope and budget development
- As a Project Manager responsible for working with a team to execute a project, or
- As a Project Engineer responsible for overseeing the technical quality of design deliverables.
- Successfully collaborating with both internal and external project teams
- Taking initiative on additional responsibilities as you manage your own career path at the firm
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- 4-10 years of experience in positions of increasing responsibility for state DOT, County, City, and other municipal clients.
- Hands-on design experience including all of the following: corridor or intersection modeling, construction details, note generation, plans production, quantity take-offs, and cost estimation.
- Preferred project experience includes roadway reconstruction, roundabouts and other intersection types, shared-use paths, separated bike lanes, signing and striping plans, signal design plans, and construction traffic control plans
- Proficiency with at least one roadway design software including Autodesk Civil 3D Bentley OpenRoads, InRoads, or GEOPAK, AutoTURN, and cost estimating programs. Civil 3D experience is preferred but not required.
- Working knowledge of transportation engineering, roadway design, multimodal and Complete Streets design, intersection planning and design, pedestrian and bicycle safety, and a general understanding of the project delivery process.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT with the expectation to obtain PE within one year.
Preferred Additional Qualifications
- Familiarity with the procedures and methodologies published in the major national guidelines (e.g., AASHTO & MUTCD).
- Familiarity with MassDOT guidelines and standards.
- Experience with drainage design, intersection control evaluations (ICE), road safety audits (RSAs) and other studies, multimodal studies, and roundabout peer reviews.
- Interest in active transportation design and innovative intersections.
- Desire to mentor younger staff and Demonstrated experience of organizing and training junior team members on various project components
- Desire to be involved with business development and project pursuits

Compensation and Benefits
This position offers a competitive salary and benefits that include comprehensive employer-paid health insurance, a generous and flexible PTO program (in addition to parental leave), an outstanding retirement program, and a culture that seeks and values diversity and inclusion.
The range for this position is $100,000-135,000, which is a combination of your base salary plus an employer-funded 401K retirement contribution. Position in this range is determined by candidate’s experience.
